Privacy Policy

Last updated: 17 September 2026

This policy explains what personal information Magibook Inc. collects, why we collect it, who we share it with, and what you can do about it. It covers magibook.co and the Magibook iOS app.

Magibook is used by children, so we have written this to be read by a parent or a teacher, not a lawyer. If anything here is unclear, write to contact@magibook.co and we will explain it.

This policy forms part of our Terms of Use, at magibook.co/terms-and-conditions-of-use.

1. Who we are

Magibook Inc. is a Delaware corporation with its registered office at 850 New Burton Road, Suite 201, Dover, Kent County, Delaware 19904, United States.

For the purposes of the UK and EU General Data Protection Regulation, Magibook Inc. is the data controller for the information described in this policy, except where a school or other institution has its own arrangement with us — see Section 5.

You can reach us about anything in this policy at contact@magibook.co.

Subscription information

When you subscribe, Apple tells us that a subscription is active, what type it is, and when it renews or lapses. Apple does not give us your payment card details, and we never ask for them.

3. What we never collect

We do not collect, and do not want:

  • payment card or bank details — Apple handles payment and never passes these to us;
  • precise location — we do not use GPS or ask for location permission;
  • contacts, photos, camera or microphone — the app does not request access to any of these;
  • a child's name, age, date of birth, address, phone number or school year — we never ask for them;
  • any special category data — we do not ask about health, disability, ethnicity, religion or anything comparable, and you should not send it to us.

If you are a parent and you tell us something about a child's needs when contacting support, we use it only to answer you and we do not keep it.

4. Why we use your information

5. Children

Children read on Magibook, and this section sets out exactly how that works.

5.1 Children do not have their own accounts, and we do not collect information from them. Only an adult aged 18 or over can create a Magibook account. A child reads on an adult's account, with Kids Mode switched on. A child cannot register, subscribe, or agree to anything.

5.2 We never ask for a child's details. We do not ask for a child's name, age, date of birth, email address, photograph, address, phone number or school year, and the app gives nowhere to enter them. Reading activity belongs to the account, not to a named child, so we cannot tell which person in a household did the reading.

5.3 Kids Mode. Kids Mode limits the catalogue to titles we consider suitable for younger readers. It is switched on by the account holder and protected by a PIN they set. It changes what the app shows; it does not collect anything extra.

5.4 What we never do. We do not use any account's information for advertising or marketing to children. We do not sell it. We do not use it to train AI models. We do not build advertising profiles. And the app has no social features at all — nobody can message, post to, or contact anyone else through Magibook.

5.5 What a parent can do, at any time. Because a child reads on your account, everything in Sections 10 and 11 applies to you: you can see the reading activity on your account, correct it, export it, or delete the account and everything in it. All of it is in your account settings.

5.6 Schools. Where a school licences Magibook for its pupils, the school decides how pupils reach the Service and instructs us on how any information is handled — in data protection terms, the school is the controller and we act as its processor. We use that information only to provide the service to the school. We do not use it for advertising, we do not sell it, and we do not use it to train AI models. When a school's licence ends, we return or delete the information as the school directs. Parents at a school should direct requests to the school first, and we will support the school in answering them.

5.7 If a child has registered anyway. If you believe a child has created an account, tell us at contact@magibook.co and we will delete it and everything in it.

6. Who we share information with

We share personal information only with companies that help us run Magibook, and only so far as they need it to do that job. They act on our instructions, they are bound by contract, and they may not use the information for their own purposes.

WhoWhat they doWhat they receive
AppleSells and manages subscriptions, distributes the appYour purchase, handled by Apple under Apple's own privacy policy. Apple tells us only that a subscription is active
Cloud hosting providerStores the app's dataAccount and reading data, stored encrypted
Analytics and crash reporting providerTells us when the app breaks and which features are usedDevice information, crash logs, usage events
Email providerSends service and marketing emailYour email address and the message
AI infrastructure providerRuns the systems that adapt book textBook text only. See Section 8

We also disclose information where the law requires it — a court order, a lawful request from a public authority — or where we need to establish or defend a legal claim, or to protect someone's safety. If Magibook is ever acquired or merged, information may transfer to the acquirer, who would remain bound by this policy until they gave you notice of any change.

7. We do not sell your information

We do not sell personal information, and we do not share it for cross-context behavioural advertising, as those terms are used in the California Consumer Privacy Act and comparable US state laws. We have never done so. We do not show advertising in the app.

8. Artificial intelligence and your data

Magibook uses automated systems, including artificial intelligence, to adapt books into different reading levels. We want to be exact about what that does and does not involve.

What goes into those systems: the text of the books we adapt. Nothing else.

What does not: your notes, your highlights, your reading history, your email address, or anything else about you. We do not use any customer information to train, fine-tune or improve AI models — ours or anyone else's.

Adaptation happens before you ever open a book. It is not a live process that reads over your shoulder, and turning a page sends nothing to an AI system.

We do not make automated decisions about you that produce legal or similarly significant effects. Reading levels are suggestions about text, not decisions about people, and you can change your level whenever you like.

9. How long we keep information

WhatHow long
Account informationWhile your account is open
Reading activity, notes and highlightsWhile your account is open, or until you delete them
Support messagesTwo years from the last message in the conversation
Crash logs and diagnostics90 days
Records we must keep by law, such as tax records of a transactionAs long as the law requires

When you close your account we delete your personal information within 30 days, apart from anything in that last category. Backups are overwritten on a rolling cycle and anything in them is gone within 90 days.

We also delete accounts that have been inactive for 36 months, together with the information in them. We email the account holder first.

10. Your rights

Wherever you live, you can ask us to:

  • give you a copy of the personal information we hold about you;
  • correct anything that is wrong;
  • delete your information;
  • stop sending you marketing;
  • export your information in a portable format.

If you are in the UK or EU, you also have the right to object to processing based on legitimate interests, to ask us to restrict processing while a dispute is resolved, to withdraw consent at any time without affecting what we did before you withdrew it, and to complain to your data protection authority — in the UK, the Information Commissioner's Office.

If you are in California or another US state with a privacy law, you have the right to know what we collect and why, to delete it, to correct it, to opt out of sale or sharing (we do neither), and not to be treated worse for exercising any of these rights. We do not use or disclose sensitive personal information for purposes that require an opt-out.

11. How to use these rights

Most of it is in the app: open your account settings to see, change, export or delete your information.

Otherwise, email contact@magibook.co from the address on your account. We will reply within 30 days, and tell you if we need longer because a request is complex. We do not charge for this.

We may need to check that a request is really coming from you. We will do that with the email address on the account rather than by asking for identity documents.

You can ask an authorised agent to make a request for you. We will ask for proof that you authorised them.

If we refuse a request, we will tell you why. You can ask us to reconsider by replying to that answer, and we will review it again and give you a written decision. If we still refuse, you may complain to your state attorney general, or to your data protection authority if you are in the UK or the EU.

12. Where your information is held

Magibook is based in the United States, and the information described here is stored and processed there.

If you are in the UK or the EU, that means your information is transferred outside your country, to a country whose data protection law differs from your own. If you would like to know more about how we handle that, write to us at contact@magibook.co.

13. How we protect information

We encrypt information in transit and at rest, restrict access to the small number of people who need it, and use reputable infrastructure providers.

No service can promise perfect security. If a breach affects your personal information and creates a real risk to you, we will tell you and the relevant regulator within the time the law allows.

14. Changes to this policy

We will update this policy as Magibook changes. The date at the top always shows the current version.

If a change materially affects how we use information you have already given us, we will tell you by email and in the app before it takes effect, and — where the law requires consent — we will ask for it rather than assume it. We will not apply a material change retroactively to information already collected without telling you.
